Leatherhead

Leatherhead, located in the Mole Valley District, Surrey, England, is approximately 17 miles (27 km) from Central London. It was built beside the River Mole ford, which is believed to be where its name derives. Leatherhead, a royal villa during the late Anglo-Saxon period is first mentioned by Alfred the Great in 880 AD. It is possible that the first bridge was built around 1200. This may have occurred during the expansion of the town or the expansion of the parish church.
